What Do You Mean by Handloom, Lab Dip, Strike off, and Knit down?

What Do You Mean by Handloom, Lab Dip, Strike off, and Knit down? Why do we need to know these terms? Handloom, Lab Dip, Strike off and Knit downc are very important terms used in the Textile and Garments industry.

Handloom is very oldest word in the textile industry. Handloom is the process to weave cloth that is made by hand. Normally, hand weaving proceeds on pit looms or frame looms in weaver’s homes. It is the interlacing of two sets of yarn.

  • Wrap (Length).
  • Weft (Width).

Skill operate manually operate this. It is done without a motor or electrical device. Skill operator-powered weaving by hand. Skill operator provides tension on the warp threads & a handloom enables the weaver to create cloth faster & more even weave. Some objectives the below.

  • Less production capacity.
  • Poor fabric quality.
  • Production cost lower.
  • It shuttle looms are very slow & noisy.
  • Cannot create a complex design.

Lab dip is a very important fabric swatch for merchandisers. Lap dip is the specimen of dyed fabric or yarns prepared for color approval. Lap dip is the initial stage of bulk fabric development. It is the representation of color approval. Normally, the buyer send a small swatch to the merchandiser for color approval. A merchandiser develops color lab dip from a fabric mill. According to lab dip go to bulk production. With lap dip a merchandiser cannot approve the bulk production. The lap dip color is verified by the lighting box. Sometimes buyers give to supplier panton & color standards to match. Lab dip is the cutting swatch of the original. In the garments sector, generally, it is made by a 6X6 swatch. Lab dip submission form depends on buyer to buyer.

Strike off is a popular term in the garments industry. It is the development stage of sourcing in the sample development. Normally, this term is use for print fabric development or sourcing stage. Strike off is the small print color swatch approval from the buyer. As per strike-off a merchandiser develops the base color of fabric. Strike off like a lab dip. Strike off is the piece of cloth to represent the bulk is called strike off. According to the submission depends from buyer to buyer.

Knit down is a small color cheek or stripe knit dyed fabric pattern called knit down. Basically, the buyer provides knit-down swatch to the supplier to develop this. According to Color Knit Down a merchandiser develops this from the fabric mill & sends for approval develop knit down. It is very important because this approval represents the bulk fabric. And, submission depends on buyer to buyer.  Knitdown down used for knitted fabric & sweaters in the garments industry.
