Management information systems (MIS) in Apparel industry

Quality output definitely got a fantastic communication channel among and between leaders. It’s not a mere perception because productivity and organizations are both romantic phenomena at a time. The reality of globalization will never bring depression from being a good channel of the workplace system with the MIS. Management Information systems (MIS) map out the channel of information like organizational culture to produce the value of chain, rationality, predictability, and risk adaption inside and outside the company; helping decision-makers to have a mirror of regular functions. In other words, MIS is a computer-based system of operations. Information systems in the Apparel Industry basically have significant elements to organize and enforce operational procedures- a) software- where a particular industry set up a plan of actions and directions to control; b) Database-   to have all generated data stored structurally; c) Procedure- a pattern of actions and guidelines conducted through determined rules and regulations; d) Operating Personnel- designated employees for specific projects or departments; e) Input and Output- computerized records of actions, achievements, plans, and investments, etc.; f) Medium and Message- Information channels, process, equipment and cooperation spheres like to whom, by whom, to when to where by which manner; g) Hardware- it’s physical parts of the computers settled according to the needs of the company. The application of MIS in the Apparel industry interconnects people with a hierarchy of the workforce, procedures, and equipment through operational analysis, and evaluation. The sample of MIS management hierarchy might be like this- General Manager (G. M), Assistant General Manager (A. G. M), Production Manager (P. M), Assistant Production Manager (A. P. M), Senior Production Officer (Sr. P.O), Production Officer (P. O), Supervisor, Operator, Helper. It’s both a top-down and bottom-up process of actions distributed as needed, relevant and timely information to each of these hierarchy positions. So, the system is all about employees, computers, and procedures.

Management ultimately pushes a company to its goal with the significance of planning, organizing, staffing, directing, cooperating, and budgeting; the apex of utilizing internal and external strength efficiently and effectively. In case we think of MIS as a whole process of a company, reality won’t deny us. In the broadest view, Management information systems (MIS) turn the national and international markets into one umbrella with trends, choices, development, fashion kinds, fashion business, remittance, etc. Not only our GDP growth but also it explores the employee strength of Bangladesh. Except for these thousand options, international research authors think of growing tensions and probabilities behind the highest import earning source in this country. MIS reminds us that Knowledge is power; information generates the knowledge; computerized systems settle this information. We should not forget the biggest number of human resources behind the virtual communication flow which we literally recognize as ‘Communication’ or operationally ‘Co Operations’. So, MIS Computerized information systems are essential to support fashion business operations, and recent developments in social media, mobile commerce models, radio frequency identification (RFID) technologies, and ERP systems are all driving innovative business measures in the industry. The ultimate goal of the fashion or Apparel industry grows to read the customer psychology and enter into the customer choice; then fix up design, implementation of intelligent forecasting and procurement systems, and manage and obtain inventions and returns. MIS always keeps in mind the user and customer reactions and its 4 typologies serve as Transaction Procession System, Operation Information System, Decision Support System, Expert System, and Artificial Intelligence. These branches of MIS empower employee competencies and enhance supply chain management, fast responsiveness, and flexibility of actions. The perspectives of MIS here reach Enterprise Resource Planning integrated with business and management practice, information technology, and specific business objectives; Vendor Managed Inventory – exchange of information system between retailer and supplier to restore and manage merchandise enough to meet customer demands. Here, Vendor means seller or contributor or producer, or manufacturer who gets information from the retailer. Both of them are the beneficiary, retailers get good sales, reduced inventory and stock-outs, reduced forecasting and purchasing activities; on the other hand, vendors or suppliers get improved visibility results, reduced PO errors and potential returns, improvement in SLA, encouraged supply chain cooperation. However, important departments of the apparel industry keep all inventories to reuse including information; Business Intelligence- uses of expertise, process, practices, applications to evaluate structured data and business process internally; Radio Frequency Identification- wireless data capture and transaction process to authenticate production and supply. It includes management of raw materials, working in progress, finished goods, efficiencies in shipping and goods arrival or receiving, loss of goods, tackling ‘out of stock situations, quality control through resource tracking, etc.; Supply Chain Management- incorporates actor and involvements with their risks and benefits, actually, they’re stakeholders – chain process among manufacturer, retailer, logistics, suppliers, distributor/ resellers. Above all insights may be performed for reaching the satisfaction of managers with need information. MIS or IS works as a weapon of managers to take strategic plans, routine operations, and warning adaptabilities from inside and outside the industry. Because, information may be operational, tactical, and strategic which are constantly seeks by the managers. In particular view, information characteristics are vital to be considered here to get an exploratory emergence of information need- source, scope, level of aggression, time horizon, currency, required accuracy, frequency of use, etc. that is why MIS is obligatory in Apparel industry with its wholistic analytical attachment and feedbacks. Definitely, MIS faces challenges like frequent Management Decision Making, the process of management indicators, financial probabilities and crisis, research and development results, production statistics – desires and undesired, changeable customer demand, database, satisfaction, and stability, changing/ managing cost and quality of sales, competitor activity, task reporting, organizational factor impacts, changing nature of the company, its goal, and work, employee behavior, investment accuracy or value for money, information gaps, internal conflicts, and external conflicts, etc. but these are also the application field of MIS. Above all MIS stands for purchase and inventory support system as placing orders, receiving orders, and then organizing and management of it. The welfare state of this tool won’t reach the desire without argument and effort. Management information systems is a very important thing.
